Establishment of a Christian based school in wakiso district Uganda that will provide holistic education to orphaned and vulnerable children phase one

Project purpose

Gganda and kyebando communities have only one government school available which is far and therefore not able to be reached by every child especially those at nursery level, this government school is also overcrowded thus the teachers are unable to give attention to all the pupils hence affecting education attainment levels. In order to address this educational need, this project seeks to extend scholarship school education to the vulnerable and orphaned children by establishing an educational facility that aims at creating an enabling Christian based environment in which orphaned and vulnerable children between the ages of 3-18 years will be mentored in becoming responsible citizens by developing their God given full potential.

Project description

This project will support members in Gganda and kyebando community by establishing a scholarship school education to the orphaned and vulnerable children of the society in order to supplement the government agenda of providing formal education as well as mentoring them under a Christian foundation. The project is divided into phases as elaborated below;

Phase one; Construction of a nursery section (kindergarten to P3 class) for the children that are

3-8 years of age.

Phase two; Construction of a primary section (P4 to P7) for the children that are 9 to 18 years of age

This proposal is aiming at phase one of constructing a nursery section, the project is targeting about 120 children at phase one and we seek to construct 6 class room blocks ,2 administration blocks and a dining hall at the start. This project is expected to be self- sustaining from the school fees charged to the children who won’t fulfill any of the eligibility conditions for full or partial scholarship, the project will aim at keeping the fees to the minimum for the children who won’t be fulfill the eligibility conditions for scholarship. currently, fees for the private schools around the community range from Uganda shillings 400,000($120) to 740,000 ($200) per term. Since this is a project to support the community, the school will charge a reduced fee of 148,000 ($40). This money will cater for the operating costs of the school thus making the project self-sustaining. Below are the selection criteria for a scholarship that will be followed during the implementation of this project;

Selection criteria for full scholarship

The school will avail a full scholarship to children who meet any of the conditions below;

• Street children who don’t have any hope for education
• Vulnerable children and orphans who are no longer in the care of their families and are unable to afford government schooling
• Children with disabilities that are manifested as difficulties in learning

Selection criteria for half scholarship

• Children who lost at least one parent and the extended family can’t take full care of the child
• Top performing students who can no longer afford to continue with their studies due to lack of school fees.
• Children whose parents are still alive but can no longer raise school fees

EXPECTED PROJECT OUTCOMES          

• Within 3 years of the opening of the school, approximately 120 orphaned and vulnerable children will be provided with a good education at 4 levels; nursery class, middle class, top class, primary one, primary two and primary three.
• The social being of orphaned and vulnerable children selected for the project will be enhanced. This will be achieved through spiritual, moral and psychological mentor ship at will be availed to the children
• Since the school will be established on a solid Christian foundation, the word of God will be instilled in the hearts of the children and this will impart a personal sense of responsibility into them. This will mold them into responsible citizens of the society
• Good quality holistic education will be provided to Vulnerable children in the community who can’t access government education, this will result into a reduction of illiteracy, ignorance and poverty of children

summary, we believe that this project will be imperative to the well-being of the orphaned and vulnerable children not only in their education but also in developing them spiritually, psychologically, emotionally and socially. This will give them a chance to experience life as a normal child should.

This project will be built in phases depending on the availability of resources. After the primary school is completed and the school activities run smoothly, we anticipate to open up a vocational training Center where our children will be equipped with vocational skills necessary to earn them a living after school
